GlueX Tutorial 2011 Virtual Machine Download
Below are the files for the virtual machine created for the
GlueX Software Tutorial in 2011. This was made using VirtualBox
so you will need to get the appropriate
VirtualBox Installer.
There is a single user account "guest". Both the guest
account and root account have the password "123456".
IMPORTANT!: There are two options for installing the virtual
machine: Option 1 is less involved, but takes up more disk space
than option 2.
- Option 1:
Start up VirtualBox and select Import Appliance ...
from the File menu. Navigate to the Xubuntu10.10.ovf
file on your hard disk and import it.
Note that this will make a copy of the hard disk image file to
another part of your actual hard disk and (on OS X at least)
do some kind of conversion that increases the copy 3-fold to
nearly 4GB! This should work on all systems, but requires
about 3GB-4GB more space than the second option.
- Option 2:
From within VirtualBox, open the VirtualMedia manager
from the File menu. Click the "Add" button and
navigate to the location of the Xubuntu10.10.vmdk file.
This will add the image to the list of available images,
avoiding the copy (and the bloating).
Note that this will use the hard disk image from wherever
it is currenlty located so make sure you don't move it
once you've told the Virtual Media Manager where it is.
From within VirtualBox, create a new virtual machine that
is a "Linux" "Ubuntu" machine (not a 64 bit machine). When
it gets to the dialog where you set up the virtual hard disk,
select "Use existing hard disk" and then select the
Xubuntu10.10.vmdk disk from the menu.
The OS installed in the virtual machine is
Xubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat).
It has all of the Hall-D offline software installed as well as
all of the dependencies. These include:
- ROOT 5.27
- CERNLIB 2006
- Xerces-C 2.8
- CLHEP 1.9.4.6
- cMsg rev9063
- EVIO rev8689
- JANA 0.6.2
- RootSpy 0.0.1
- AmpTools (May, 2010)
- hdds-1.1
- sim-recon rev7165 (Dec. 16, 2010)
Once you've got the virtual machine up and running, you can go into
the Tutorial2011 directory (int /home/guest/Tutorial2011) and read the
README file there to get started on the tutorial sections.
