This animation shows the variation of the spectral function in the quasi-continuum region as the atomic well separation parameter a varies. The middle line represents the spectral function in the field-free case, without an electric field. In this F=0 case, as a
increases the period of the Ramsauer resonances due to scattering between the two atomic wells changes. The other, more rapidly varying, curve
is the spectral function for nonzero electric field strength F. Here, there are shorter period oscillations due to Ramsauer scattering between the linear field potential and the atomic well(s). As a increases these rapid oscillations average about the field-free spectral
function and also appear to be modulated according to the field-free case. This reflects the competition between these two different Ramsauer effects, which is particularly clear at the low end of the quasi-continuum spectrum.
