Conference Excursions

On Wednesday afternoon, there will be a number of excursions available to participants. Buses will leave campus after the morning talks and return to campus following dinner at the various locations. A box lunch, to be eaten on the bus, will be provided to each excursion participant. Each of the excursions costs $50 per person. This price includes transportation, the box lunch, and the ticket for admission. Dinner will be available at the various locations at additional cost. Excursion participants must sign up in advance through the registration website. Further information on the four excursions is available through the links provided below.
  • Mystic Seaport - the Museum of America and the Sea - is America's leading Maritime Museum. Explore American maritime history firsthand as you climb aboard historic tall ships, stroll through a re-created 19th-century coastal village or watch a working preservation shipyard in action.
  • Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration is a unique experience in living marine creatures and the latest discoveries in oceanographic and deep-sea archaeological research.
  • Old Sturbridge Village - the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast. This living museum will transport you through time and re-create life in rural New England during the 1830s.
  • Pequot Museum and Foxwoods Casino - The Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center brings to life the story and culture of this Native American Tribal Nation. Foxwoods is the largest casino in the world, offering a multitude of shopping, dining, and gaming experiences.

Accompanying Persons Program

Bus or shuttle transportation will be available to various nearby destinations. Possible examples include: Wadsworth Atheneum and Mark Twain House (Hartford); New Britain Museum of American Art (New Britain); Essex Steam Train / River Boat / Gillette Castle (Essex); Nathan Hale Homestead (Coventry); shopping at Buckland Hills Mall and Evergreen Walk (Manchester). Destinations will be chosen by consensus among the participants, in consultation with the accompanying local guides. Transportation costs are included in the accompanying person's registration. Entrance fees and meals will be extra.
