Present studies emphasize the role of local environments in determining and modifying structural and magnetic properties of magnetic materials. Site occupancy and bonding of ternary substitutions in nickel aluminum based systems are also being explored by X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Magnetic correlations in high Tc superconductors are explored by muon spin rotation spectroscopy (MSR) in cooperation with the University of Konstanz. Nuclear magnetic resonance, nuclear quadrupole resonance, SQUID magnetometry and transport studies are a few of the techniques in active use in our laboratories.
