What computer quotas are enforced?
Presently we have two types of disk space quotas:
- a quota for user home directory, which concerns the files stored on the file server
- a quota for user incoming mailbox, which concerns the mail stored on the mail server
The two quotas are unrelated, they are independently enforced on two different servers.
What is my disk quota? How can I increase it?
The 'disk quota' aka 'home directory quota' aka ' file server quota' is a restriction on the total size of user's files and folders. The default disk quota on the Department's file server is 300 MB. If you need more disk space for research or teaching please contact your system administrator. The file server quota is unrelated to the incoming mailbox quota.
What is my INBOX quota?
The 'incoming mailbox quota' aka 'INBOX quota' is a restriction on the size of user's INBOX, which is stored on the mail server. All othe mailboxes are stored in user home directories on the file server, and are subject to disk quota. The default INBOX quota on the Department's mail server is 100 MB. The mail server quota is unrelated to the quota on the file server. How do I know that I am over quota?
If you are over quota you start getting a daily email with a warning/reminder.
