The Nuclear force from lattice QCD

The nucleon–nucleon (NN) potential VNN(r) is studied by the lattice QCD simulations in the quenched approximation. Using the plaquette gauge action and the Wilson quark action on 324 lattice at the lattice spacing a=0.14 fm, the NN potentials in the 1S0 and 3S1 channels are derived from the equal-time Bethe–Salpeter wave function on the lattice. We found a strong repulsive core at short distances (r ≤ 0.5 fm) surrounded by a relatively weak attraction at medium and long distances, which is consistent with the empirical structure of the nucleon force. Wild applications of our approach to general baryon–baryon interactions are also discussed.
