How Much Do You Need to Know in Order to Teach?

Mark Olson
Assistant Professor, Science Education
Neag School of Education, UCONN

This talk/discussion will introduce participants to some of the challenges of identifying “the subject matter knowledge needed for teaching” and how to best prepare future teachers of science for our schools. This is of particular importance in physics where the number of certified physics teachers continues to drop. How can we best prepare teachers to teach physics well? What do they need to know and how might they learn it?
