Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics Seminar

Things That Go Bump in the Cold

Dr. John Bohn

JILA and University of Colorado

This talk will consider collisions of atoms and molecules in a dilute ultracold (<< 1 K) gas. Various outcomes of a collision can be expected, based on the types of collision partners involved, their internal states, and the presence of external electric or magnetic fields. I will explore the mechanisms behind internal state-changing collisions, with an emphasis on influencing the outcome of a collision.
