Confinement in Quasi-1D Physics

Dr. Alexei Tsvelik

Brookhaven National Laboratory

There are quite a few condensed matter systems which display a weak confinement of fractional quantum number excitations. Among those are Wigner crystals and various magnets. The confinement radius depends on the interchain interaction and can be tuned. In this talk I describe the physics behind the confinement, talk about various models and outline the procedure of calculation of correlation functions.
