Controlling Quantum Dynamics: From Quantum Information to Chaos and Scars

Even with low energy, femtosecond laser pulses can generate electric fields comparable to those binding electrons in atoms and atoms in molecules. Shaped into virtually any desired waveform and delivered with femtosecond precision, these pulses become unique tools for controlling quantum dynamics. I will explore several aspects of this control, ranging from the connection between quantum control, quantum information and quantum computing to the physical origins of quantum control in systems chaotic in classical limit.
