About Me |
|
Hello, my name is James O’Brien. I am a third year graduate student at the University of Connecticut. I was born in the Bronx, New York, and then later moved to Upstate New York for my undergraduate education. I attended the State University of New York at New Paltz, where I graduated Suma Cum Laude, with a Dual Degree in Mathematics and Physics. As my undergraduate thesis, I researched the group like properties of Thermodynamic functions, and applied graph theory to enumerate the Maxwell Relations of a Thermodynamic System. Currently here at UCONN, I am beginning theoretical work, under the guidance of my advisor Dr. Phillip Mannheim, on General Solutions to Einstein’s Field equations. At this moment, I am exploring general formulations of the Energy Momentum Tensor, for an arbitrary mass distribution. My other interests in physics are General Relativity, Gravitation, and Cosmology, and Field Theory. As a teaching assistant, I have performed many duties over my tenure hear at UCONN. I have been a TA for Physics 131,132,151,152. Currently, I am lecturing a course for undergraduate physics majors, who plan on attending graduate school. The course is Physics 298, “Mathematical Methods for Physicists”, which takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30-4:45 in P.B. 121. More information on this course can be found at the link below. Aside from physics, I am currently the president of the UCONN Intercollegiate Roller Hockey Team. We participate in the ECRHA and NCRHA tournaments. I am also guitar player for the band Dogface. More info about these activities can be found by clicking on the respective links, or contacting me via email. |
